About Me

My Photo
I am a fourth-generation Montanan with a background in fine arts and design, including residential interior design and children’s theater. Because of my background in scene and costume design, manipulating fabrics and found objects into sculptures comes second nature to me. They are each a piece of theatre and inspiration can come from anywhere. A name, a piece of fabric, or a discarded brooch can be the basis of a character. Next the skeleton is roughed out of electrical wire and wooden dowels. Bits and snatches of fiber, fabric and accessories are pulled together on a story board. Bit by bit the costume is fitted to the character and sometimes the body is fitted to the costume. Next I start the rehearsal process, with posing the character into his or her stance, adding a piece of jewelry, changing a hat, scuffing a boot. Last their face is created, hair and makeup applied appropriate to this new character. Each one has its own voice, its own story.

Gwen Tisdale-Twist Queen

"Bon Voyage Darling, Happy Birthday, or its just cocktail hour!  Well, I finally did it, used Morty's life insurance, darling, and I am going on the QE2!  I'm wearing that fabulous bling suit that shows my new waist.  Now it fits!  Going to miss all of you.  Postcards are pre- written!  Might have to take my Chubby  Checker records...love to twist and pony!"

Gwen was created from my energy, getting ready for a show!   I had my show ready, but couldn't stop creating.  Soooo   I created  "Qwen" !  Took the piece to a show.   Not knowing how it would do.  With no name or story!  Everyone loved this piece!  "Who is she?"  I love her!  She looks like my Mom ...in the sixties!"  She was so loved and adored ...she sold the best at Buyers Market and Acre Orlando!  What did everyone see in this woman.  It hit me finally.  Being a child in the sixties!  I can remember friends of my Mom's getting kind of a Modern makeover.  Hair got big, closes were tight, make up was in all kinds of  color.  And everyone drank, danced and smoked!  I  can remember my parents talking about the night before and who did " The Twist"!    Cocktails, records, and Bee Hive doos!  This was a new modern woman who stayed home and raised the kiddos but on the week end...Party Girl!  We all new Qwen.  She was the most fun to be around.  Would probably let you try out her makeup, or sippies from her drink.  She was just the most fun..unlike other of our parents friends (parents)!
