About Me

My Photo
I am a fourth-generation Montanan with a background in fine arts and design, including residential interior design and children’s theater. Because of my background in scene and costume design, manipulating fabrics and found objects into sculptures comes second nature to me. They are each a piece of theatre and inspiration can come from anywhere. A name, a piece of fabric, or a discarded brooch can be the basis of a character. Next the skeleton is roughed out of electrical wire and wooden dowels. Bits and snatches of fiber, fabric and accessories are pulled together on a story board. Bit by bit the costume is fitted to the character and sometimes the body is fitted to the costume. Next I start the rehearsal process, with posing the character into his or her stance, adding a piece of jewelry, changing a hat, scuffing a boot. Last their face is created, hair and makeup applied appropriate to this new character. Each one has its own voice, its own story.

Mom's birthday gift of laughter!

The top picture was taken of Mom skipping school!  It is her senior year in High School.  Mom and several girl friends skipped school, bought beer, and picnic ed all day at Cherry Creek.  Of course one of her teachers drove by and saw them.   Mom was a cheerleader, so this did not go over very big with the faculty!  I never heard this story until much, much later in Mom's life.  Mom had a way of twisting the rules until somehow they were wrong and she knew better!  If an ornament was hidden in your shopping cart, and not noticed by the checkout person...well...it's yours.   If the tag is miss-marked...Woo Who...they over charge anyway!   Mom's last trip to Louisville, we shopped at Value City ( Mom had probably switched some shoes into another show box). Upon leaving...high on her shopping experience....she turned to me and Rick and said" Well girls, where should we have lunch?"  (awkward silence) " Well...what ever."  she said.  We would laugh about this for years.  Mom had the great ability to tell a story different every time.  She could tell a tale about a family member.  And still be as mad as she was 40 years ago. Then look at you an explode with laughter.  She could look into herself and laugh.   I think Mom really loved how silly people could act.  No one could laugh at her self better, than Mom.  Today, Mom would have been 85 years old.  I miss her laughter and friendship everyday.  So on her birthday, I will embellish a story, laugh till I bust...and think of Mom.
